Why Goalkeeper Development Matters at Coppermine Soccer Club

Goalkeepers have a unique role within a team. They see the game differently, communicate constantly, organize players in front of them, and are often asked to make quick decisions under pressure. Because of that, goalkeeper development cannot rely only on regular team training.

At Coppermine Soccer Club, we believe goalkeepers need consistent, position-specific coaching that helps them build confidence, improve technique, understand game situations, and grow as leaders. Our goalkeeper program gives players the chance to train with coaches who understand the demands of the position and can help them develop at each stage of the game.

This program supports goalkeepers across our youth teams, Girls Academy, and MLS NEXT pathway. The goal is simple: give our goalkeepers the training, feedback, and support they need to keep improving within their team environment.

Introducing the Coppermine 2026/27 Goalkeeper Staff

Coppermine Soccer Club is proud to introduce our goalkeeper staff for the 2026/27 season.

Boys Program

Brock Yetso Goalkeeper Director

The program will be led by Brock Yetso, a former University of Virginia standout and youth National Team player with more than 25 years of coaching experience across the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. Brock currently serves as the goalkeeper coach at Loyola Blakefield and Towson University and will help guide the club’s goalkeeper training structure.

Phil Saunders

Brock will work alongside Phil Saunders, a former UMBC standout and current Baltimore Blast goalkeeper coach, to lead training for Coppermine’s Boys Youth and MLS NEXT goalkeepers. Together, they bring strong playing and coaching backgrounds, along with a clear understanding of what goalkeepers need to compete in demanding environments.

Girls Program

Tiffany McKee

On the girls’ side, Tiffany McKee, current head coach at St. Paul’s School for Girls, will lead the Girls Academy goalkeepers. A former record-setting goalkeeper at Stevenson University, Tiffany has spent the past decade developing many of the region’s top female goalkeepers and brings valuable experience to our GA pathway.

Brenna Ellenberger

Supporting the girls’ youth pathway is Brenna Ellenberger, who had an outstanding collegiate career at Hood College, where she set multiple records in shutouts and saves while earning All-Conference honors. Brenna brings energy, experience, and a strong developmental approach to our younger goalkeepers.

Julie Yetso

Rounding out the staff is Julie Yetso, a former UCLA and Loyola College goalkeeper and National C licensed coach. Julie brings valuable insight, technical knowledge, and game-day feedback to both players and staff.

Together, this staff will work with goalkeepers across Coppermine’s youth, Girls Academy, and MLS NEXT teams, providing consistent training focused on confidence, communication, decision-making, technical growth, and continued player development.

Janice Johnson Director of Girls Soccer

Coppermine Soccer Club, Powered by Orlegi Sports Announces Janice Johnson as Director of Girls Soccer

Janice brings a wealth of experience across youth, collegiate, and talent identification environments. She has served as both a Girls Academy Aspire Director and Youth Director, playing a pivotal role in leading staff, developing players, and driving the growth and success of girls programs.

A highly qualified coach, Janice holds a UEFA B License (DFB pathway) along with advanced credentials from U.S. Soccer and United Soccer Coaches, including the USSF CTL-1 (Director of Coaching), USC Premier Diploma, and USC Director of Coaching License.

She is currently completing her U.S. Soccer Talent ID Scouting License, as well as her U.S. Soccer Coach Educator License. Upon completion, she will be able to facilitate U.S. Soccer D License courses.

She also serves as a U.S. Club Soccer iD2 Scout and participates in the U.S. Soccer Talent Reporter Pilot Program, where she identifies high-potential players for elite and national pathways.

Future Growth for Coppermine Soccer Families

Coppermine Soccer Club is making a major investment with plans to develop a dedicated soccer academy that will serve as the club’s headquarters and player academy.

The new facility will be located at the former Cardinal Gibbons campus in Southwest Baltimore and represents a major milestone for the club and our families.

What This Means for Coppermine Families

For players and parents, this project is all about player development, opportunity, and growth.

The first phase of the 40,000-square-foot academy will feature:

4 Turf fields - 3 new and renovated Babe Ruth field.
30,000-square-foot building for classrooms, offices, and specialty training areas (e.g., tactical film rooms)
10,000-square-foot indoor performance center
New 1,000 capacity stadium for the transformed Babe Ruth field
250 additional parking spaces
Permanent concessions

The future vision for the academy includes dedicated on-site dorms and apartments.

Our club has experienced significant growth over the past 12 years, and our new academy facility will benefit all our players at every level from grassroots to our academy-level teams (Girls Academy and MLS NEXT). This comprehensive development environment is transformative for development and our player pathway.

Coppermine and Orlegi Sports Launch a Global Pathway

Coppermine Soccer Club has officially partnered with Orlegi Sports Group , a globally respected organization with a strong presence in professional soccer across Mexico and Europe. This collaboration represents a major step forward as a club to provide the very best development environment and opportunities for our players both here at home and internationally.

This new relationship brings together Orlegi Sports’ philosophies, expertise, methodologies, and operational knowledge with Coppermine’s current youth soccer offerings, our infrastructure and player pathways, “Coppermine Soccer, Powered by Orlegi Sports” will allow continued growth and opportunities to expand youth soccer programming across Maryland and the wider youth sports landscape to include international opportunities.

Through this partnership, our athletes and players will gain access to expanded pathways for growth, including:

Age Group Changes for the 2026-2027 Season.

Coppermine Soccer Club is committed to providing the best possible development environment for our players, and we want to keep you informed about a significant change coming to youth soccer age group registration starting with the upcoming 2026-2027 season .

After extensive feedback from clubs, coaches, parents, and players across the country, US Youth Soccer (USYS), US Club Soccer, AYSO, and MLS NEXT (Academy Division) have decided to shift from the current calendar birth year system (January 1 – December 31) back to a seasonal/school-year system (August 1 – July 31) . This change aims to better align soccer teams with school grade levels, allowing more players to compete alongside their classmates and reducing the challenges faced by "trapped players" (those whose birthdays cause them to be separated from grade-level peers at key transition points like 8th grade or high school senior year). In order to be eligible to participate in US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer leagues and competitions, Coppermine Soccer must be compliant with this change.

The 2025-2026 season will remain under the current birth year rules, giving everyone a full year to prepare. Starting in fall 2026, the new August 1 – July 31 cutoff will apply to most competitive leagues.

How This Affects Coppermine Teams by League

Coppermine competes in a variety of leagues, and listed below is a breakdown of how the age group change will impact leagues and age groups for the 2026-2027 season and beyond:

What This Means for Your Player

Players born August 1 – December 31 will generally "move down" an age group.
Players born January 1 – July 31 will generally "move up" an age group.
Teams will now span two calendar birth years (e.g., a U12 team might include players born August 1, 2014 – July 31, 2015, plus any approved play-up/play-down exceptions).

This is a fast-paced, high-intensity class built for players who want to train hard, compete, and improve their technical ability in a professional environment.

Coppermine Names Bryan Laut as College Recruiting Coordinator and North Region Liaison

Baltimore, MD — Coppermine Soccer Club is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Bryan Laut as the new College Recruiting Coordinator and North Region Liaison. With over two decades of experience at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.

Currently in his 15th season as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Goucher College, Coach Laut is the program’s all-time wins leader and a two-time Landmark Conference Coach of the Year. He has guided Goucher to multiple ECAC Post-Season appearances and has developed All-Region, Academic All-American, and professional-level players.
Coach Laut’s coaching resume also includes time at the Division I level as Assistant Head Coach at Lafayette College, where he helped secure a Landmark Conference title, three Patriot League Championship game appearances, and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

In his new role at Coppermine, Coach Laut will lead our college recruitment initiatives, walking players and families through every phase of the recruiting journey. His extensive network, practical insight, and proven strategies will be an incredible asset to our athletes looking to take the next step in their soccer careers.

As North Region Liaison, he will also focus on expanding Coppermine’s reach in the northern corridor, supporting program development and club growth.

He holds both the USSF National “B” and National “Youth” Licenses and has spent over a decade as Assistant Athletic Director at Goucher College, where he led coach development, facility operations, and strategic planning.

Coppermine Soccer Club (CSC) has grown to be one of the largest club soccer programs in the region by offering an environment of long-term youth development where players can excel and become their best. This environment includes experienced coaches and trainers, club-wide development standards, world-class facilities, and advanced sport technologies.

Each year CSC holds free club soccer tryouts for all age groups and players. The goal of our tryouts is to provide all players with an opportunity to play club soccer based on their abilities. If the player is selected, we strive to provide the best long-term development environment .

As the assistant coach for Georgetown University’s women’s soccer team since 2023, Cameron actively developed players to compete at a collegiate level, giving him firsthand insight into what college programs look for in recruits. Prior to Georgetown,, he spent four years at Florida Atlantic University. His experience spans recruiting, training, and mentoring athletes who’ve successfully transitioned to college soccer. Strikers & Keepers Camp 7/15-7/18

Strikers and Keepers camp is designed for goalkeepers and strikers (field players) to challenge one another in their respective positions. Coppermine Soccer Club’s Boys Program Joins The ECNL Regional League

We're pleased to announce that six of our boys’ teams will join the ECNL Regional League for the upcoming 2024-25 season. The ECNL Regional League announced major additions and promotions, and we're honored to be included in the ECNL Regional League - Northeast (South). “The existing ECNL Boys Regional League - North Atlantic will be rebranded as the ECNL Boys Regional League - Northeast for the 2024-25 season, more accurately reflecting its scope and size with the new additions. The ECNL Regional - Northeast will expand from 8 clubs to 16 clubs with newly created North and South divisions. This alignment will allow the league to add clubs from both Boston and Maryland in order to increase competition and quality, expand reach, and also reduce overall travel. CFC North, Eastern FC (NY), New England Surf, and Scorpions SC (MA) will join the ECNL Regional League - Northeast (North), while Coppermine SC (MD), FC Copa (NJ), FC Europa (PA), and YMS (PA) will join the ECNL Regional League - Northeast (South).” Our addition to the ECNL Regional League represents a significant player development milestone for our club. Our teams will be competing against top clubs including Delaware FC, Philadelphia, Ukrainian Nationals, FC Europa, South Jersey Elite Barons, YMS, FC Copa and PSA Monmouth. The ECNL Regional League will also provide our players with additional collegiate recruiting exposure on regional and national levels.
The ECNL Regional League has a proven track record of promoting teams into The ECNL, and we couldn't be more thrilled to be on this journey. This move signifies a significant step forward for our program and demonstrates our commitment to excellence on and off the field.

2024-2025 Soccer Tryouts

Coppermine Soccer Club (CSC) has grown to one of the largest clubs soccer programs in the region by offering an environment of long-term youth development where players can excel and become their best. This environment includes experienced coaches and trainers, club wide development standards, world class facilities, and advanced sport technologies.
Each year CSC holds club soccer tryouts for all age groups and genders. These soccer tryouts are free and open to all players. The goal of our tryouts is to provide all players an opportunity to play club soccer based on their abilities. If the player is selected, we strive to provide the best long-term development environment . CSC believes that financial constraints should not be a barrier for families that wish to play club soccer, and Financial Assistance is potentially available for families that qualify.

Coppermine Soccer Club Appoints New Girls Academy Director

Coppermine Soccer Club is proud to announce the appointment of Madison Ferrara as the new Girls Academy (GA) Director for the upcoming 2024/2025 season. The GA is the premier youth soccer development platform for the best female soccer players in the United States, offering them a pathway to the highest levels of the game. The GA provides a holistic and player-centric approach to female player development, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, mental, and social aspects of the game.
Coppermine’s recent acceptance in the GA’s Mid-Atlantic Conference was a major milestone for the club and its girls’ program. Coppermine Soccer Club is one of the few clubs in the region that offers the GA opportunity to its female players, giving them access to the highest level of competition, exposure, development, and education.
It was a natural progression for Madison to become Coppermine’s GA Director. Madison has been coaching for Coppermine Soccer Club for two years and is the current Girls Youth Director for the Central Region. Madison brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role, having played, and coached at various levels of soccer.

Elite 64 is the top club-based platform in the USYS National League. The event featured over 190 boys club soccer teams (2011 – 2005) from across the country.
This is the first stage of two stages of National League events for the 2010-2005 age groups. This stage provides every team that advances an opportunity to compete at the National League P.R.O. event in Tampa, Florida 2/23-2/27. Teams that advance out of the National League P.R.O. qualify for the National Championship.

2011 Boys Elite 64 Recap The 2011 Boys Elite 64 team made their first appearance at the Florida playoffs. The boys made their mark on the event by going undefeated and racking up three clean sheets against some very good quality competitive soccer clubs from North Carolina and New Jersey.
2010 Boys Elite 64 Recap The Boys 2010 E64 team finished the playoffs with a 2-1 record conceding only two goals against teams from Georgia, Kansas, and Oregon. The boys capped off their very solid run defeating the 2023 National Finalist, Oregon Premier. All three games went into penalty shootouts with Keeper Finn Goldstein coming up big with several key saves.

Cory Faust (Center Back) was highlighted by PROSCORE for his outstanding defensive play.

2009 Boys Elite 64 Recap The Boys Elite 64 team completed the playoff with a solid 2-1 record against strong teams from Kansas, Tennessee, and New Jersey. The boys overcame adversity being down 1-0 in two consecutive games and fought back in the second half to come away with two wins. They narrowly lost in a very competitive game against a strong STA team.
2008 Boys Elite 64 Recap Another strong showing for the 2008 Boys Elite 64 team as the went 2-1 in the playoffs. They conceded only two goals against very competitive teams for Illinois and New Jersey. The boys had a great game, and win, against the 2023 USYS E64 National Finalists - Galaxy SC 08B Elite 64.
2007 Boys Elite 64 Recap
The 2007 Boys E64 had an impressive 2-0 win over one of the top ranked Elite 64 teams in the country, United Futbol Academy (GA,) securing their ticket to the National League P.R.O.
2005/06 Boys Elite 64 Recap The 2005/06 Boys Elite 64 team came away with a 1-2 playoff record playing very competitive teams from Kansas, Illinois, Michigan. The boys had a great 3-1 result against Galaxy SC 05B Elite 64, 2023's USYS National Championship Finalists.

Caleb Margolis (Midfield) was highlighted by PROSCORE for his outstanding midfield play.

This was a great showing for our boys Elite 64 teams. It takes a club effort from players, parents, coaches, administration, etc. to produce these results and a reflection of all the hard work put in by everyone!

2011 Girls Title Game Recap Three straight clean sheets helped Coppermine SC 11G Elite 64 claim the 13U playoff title, as it capped off its weekend with a 1-0 win over Team Boca 11G Elite 64 in the championship game. After a scoreless first half, Coppermine’s Ava Abarbanel found the back of the net in the 40th minute to put her side in front. The Maryland side relied on its stout defensive work to see out the remaining half-hour of play, as it secured the 1-0 victory.
2009 Girls Title Game Recap Coppermine SC 09G Elite 64 saved its best performance for the title game, as it won, 5-0, against Charlotte SA 09G Elite 64. Caroline Marsh opened the scoring moments after the opening whistle, and Christiana Mitchell doubled Coppermine’s advantage with a 17th-minute strike. Mitchell later completed a brace when she finished off a move down the right wing with one-touch finish in front of goal. Catherine Ruopp added two late goals to cap the dominant showing by Coppermine that gave it the 15U title.
2007 Girls Title Game Recap A third straight clean sheet for Coppermine SC Girls 07G Elite 64 awarded them the 17U title. Facing off against Lobos Rush 07G Elite 64 in the championship game, Coppermine jumped in front in the 21st minute when Samantha White found the back of the net. Sarah Ford added an insurance goal just before the end of the first half, helping Coppermine to a 2-0 victory and the playoff title.
2008 Girls Title Game Recap A tight title game saw Team Boca 08G Elite 64 defeat Coppermine SC Girls 08G Elite 64, 2-1, to win the 16U title. Coppermine took an early lead with an Audrey Lucas goal in the 10th minute, but Boca’s Morgan Tyrakoski quickly replied five minutes later to equalize. Midway through the second half, Julianna Liguori found the back of the net for the Florida side to clinch the win and the playoff title.
This was a great showing for our girls Elite 64 teams. It takes a club effort from players, parents, coaches, administration, etc. to produce these results and a reflection of all the hard work put in by everyone!

Gabriela Colón U17 Puerto Rico National Team

Coppermine Soccer Club's Gabriela Colón has received an invitation from the U17 Puerto Rican National Team. The team will be competing in the U17 Concacaf Championship in Mexico. Puerto Rico is in Group B that consists of:
USA
Canada
Puerto Rico
Panama
Gabriela will travel to Mexico on Jan 31st to begin training. The top three teams advance to the U17 World Cup.
Puerto Rico will play:2/2: Canada
2/4: USA
2/6: Panama

Gabriela's family received notification from the Director of Recruitment for the Federation inviting her to join the team, which she gladly accepted. The family has been communicating with the federation and providing highlight videos for review. Marcela Robinson , a former Puerto Rican National Player, and captain of the Coppermine United team, also reached out on her behalf.
Gabriela plays club soccer for the Coppermine '07 Elite64 Team and has been a Premier/Coppermine player since she was eight years old. Val Teixeira has been her coach since she was nine and Gabriela credits him for all of her success. Coach Val has guided her in every step of this process and her current college recruitment journey. She currently plays high school soccer at Perry Hall High School as a Sophomore starter. Coppermine Soccer Club is very proud of Gabriela and wish her luck in the U17 Concacaf Championship.

We have released our date for the Boys Soccer College ID Clinic. The Soccer College ID Clinic this year will be on Sunday February 11th to ensure that there are no conflicts with Boys Showcase events/tournaments.
Our College ID clinic's schedule ensures every minute of your time is maximized demonstrating your talent & learning invaluable recruiting insights from experienced college coaches.
The Soccer College ID Clinic will run from 8:30AM-1:00PM at Coppermine Norris Field . College's & University's to be announced.
The boys soccer college ID clinic is open to all soccer players regardless of soccer club affiliation.
Our goal is to have a mixture of local NCAA D1, D2, D3 and NJCAA schools to give the players an opportunity to learn all about the different levels of the NCAA. This is a great opportunity to showcase your skills in front some of the best college soccer coaches in the area.

Coppermine Soccer Club entered eleven boy's youth club teams in the EDP Cup Fall competition. Considered one of the top-ranked events of the EDP Cup Series, the EDP Cup Fall is a chance for top teams from around the country to compete against teams from different platforms creating a best vs best experience including National League Conferences; MLS Next; Girls Academy; ECNL; EDP; and International Teams.

Coppermine Soccer Club entered twenty-seven teams in the OBGC Capital Cup tournament from September 1st to September 4th (eighteen boys' teams and nine girls' teams). Rated one of the top Labor Day Tournaments in Region I, the OBGC Capital Cup teams play against some of the best teams in the DMV area.

All our teams performed extremely well and our 2009 Girls and 2010 Boys advanced to the quarterfinals and the 2007 Boys progressed to the Semifinals. Maeve Konstantoulas (2006 Girls Elite 64) and Grayson Benson (2006 Boys Elite 64) were also selected as goalkeepers for the U17 Elite 64 Best XI team .
The consistent work by all the players, coaches, staff, and families throughout the year was a determining factor for this success.

Coppermine Soccer Club is proud to announce that Maeve Konstantoulas (2006 Girls Elite 64) and Grayson Benson (2006 Boys Elite 64) have been selected as members of the U17 Elite 64 Best XI team. The Elite 64 Best XI teams feature the top youth club soccer players in the 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U and 19U age groups for boys and girls.
Maeve and Grayson were both selected for their outstanding goalkeeping performances during the 2022/2023 season. “This recognition highlights consistent high-level play throughout the course of the season in all areas of the game,” said Simon Collins, USYS National League Commissioner. “We congratulate all of the selected players, along with their teammates and coaches, who worked hard to earn this honor, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for these talented young athletes.” Coppermine Soccer Club is immensely proud of both players for all their hard work and achievements throughout the year. Like moving into a new home, you may find items that are missing or not working as designed. We have completed ample testing, but we can't evaluate all scenarios. We have finished unpacking all the moving boxes and are now looking for the spatula in the kitchen.

Coppermine Soccer Club (CSC) upcoming Fall registration process will be different than previous sessions. During previous years we would rely on the player being marked as a keeper in PlayMetrics. This had limitations since 2nd and 3rd keepers usually dd not attend keeper training. This year the keeper training will be managed through PlayMetrics as a free program open to all rostered players. This will ensure that all keepers, and players seeking to become keepers, can attend keeper training.
Program Registration The PlayMetrics registration program will be made available on July 31st and be open until the end of August.
