Sandy Lagana Bly Named Girls Academy Director

This exciting addition reflects our continued commitment to elevating the girls platform and providing our players with exceptional leadership, experience, and developmental opportunities as our club continues to grow.


We are also excited to share that Madison Ferrara will continue to be an important part of the Coppermine Soccer family. Madison will remain actively involved within our Girls Academy platform, continuing to coach and work directly with players and teams as her impact has been tremendous in the GA platform over the years.


Sandy Lagana Bly coached at the college level for 19 seasons, most recently as the Head Coach at McDaniel College. Lagana Bly came to McDaniel as the head women’s soccer coach in 2012. The winningest coach in the history of the women’s soccer program, Lagana Bly guided the Green Terror to 144 wins, including five NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2016.


In 2021, Lagana Bly led the Green Terror to a program-record 18 games en route to the 2021 Centennial Conference championship, the first in program history. She headlined five Centennial Conference Coach of the Year honors, two United Soccer Coaches Regional Coach of the Year Honors, and has coached five All-Americans, two Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year selections and one Centennial Conference Player of the Year. Lagana Bly was promoted to Associate Athletic Director on March 22, 2024, where she served as the department's Senior Woman Administrator and oversaw NCAA compliance. Prior to McDaniel, Lagana Bly spent five seasons as the head coach at Ferrum from 2007–11 and one at Mary Baldwin in 2006.


A native of Sykesville, Md., Lagana Bly graduated as valedictorian from South Carroll High School before earning all-conference honors in both women's soccer and women's lacrosse at Bridgewater College in Virginia where she graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. She later earned her Master of Science in kinesiology and recreation studies with concentrations in athletic administration and coaching from James Madison in 2006.


Lagana Bly is married to David Bly who currently serves as an assistant track and field coach at McDaniel. The couple has a son, Brooks.


Sandy’s leadership, collegiate experience, and proven track record of building successful programs make her an outstanding addition to our staff and a tremendous asset.
